Note that if your new drive is unformatted, all you’ll get if you make a mistake is an error. If you’re doing this yourself, make sure you Double check that the source drive is the old drive. We selected the old drive still in the laptop - as the source and the USB drive as the destination. Then we ran the Apricorn EZ Gig II software. In our tests using Windows XP, the drive was automatically detected and recognized as an external USB hard drive. If the USB port can’t deliver adequate power, Apricorn supplies an additional cable that will siphon power from the keyboard or mouse port on the laptop. Most USB ports, whether 1.1 or 2.0, will actually power the unit no power brick needed. Next, we connected the newly built compact USB drive to the PC with the supplied USB cable. Windows 2000 and Windows XP owners can just install the EZ Gig II applications software directly. Windows ME/98/98SE users may may need to install an additional driver.
